Meet the Face Behind the Camera

Hi there! I’m Almendra Melendez, the photographer behind Floreciendo in the Desert! I was born in Leadville, Colorado but currently reside in Deming, New Mexico. Deming has been the land that has seen me grow throughout the years and it holds a very special place in my heart. Aside from photography, I work part time at a thrift store in my hometown. I’m a 25-year-old that has a passion for Jesus, flowers, old-school music, the countryside, tranquility, and nature. I also love my Petunia, travel, knowledge, and deep conversations. I enjoy the rain and love the feeling of creating things.

I received my very own first camera in 2015, at just 15 years of age. Little did I know that years later I’d be managing my own photography business. As a teenager, I always dreamed of having my own business one day. However, I set those aspirations aside for a time, focusing on my own personal growth. There was even a time when I considered abandoning my photography dreams altogether. Yet, here I stand today, declaring that Floreciendo in the Desert is a dream come true, despite the numerous deserts I’ve faced along the way.

Floreciendo in the Desert symbolizes a place of growth. Inspired by the biblical passage of Isaiah 35:1, which speaks of how even the most arid desert will one day flourish and rejoice. I’m fortunate to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds, while also witnessing their growth. I wouldn’t have gotten this far without God’s help and the wonderful people who have supported me throughout. While I continue to work on refining my photographic style and pursuing my dreams, I am confident that, little by little, I’ll get to the place where I want to be. 🌸
